As far back as I can remember, I’ve had an unquiet mind.
Growing up, my thoughts raced rapidly and skipped uncontrollably.
Before I could focus on one thing, my mind would jump to another and another.
And really all over the place.
When people hear this, they immediately think ADHD
And I wish it were only that simple.
That's because my emotions also cycled intensely.
One minute, I was feeling one way.
And the next, completely different.
Some days I felt lethargic and barely able to get out of bed.
Other days, hyper and out of control.
When people hear that, they immediately think bipolar
And I wish it were that simple too
I wasn't just skipping between two opposing emotions.
But cycling through the entire rainbow of emotions.
The best way to describe it is I was feeling almost everything at once.
So most of my life, I felt like I was going to spontaneously combust, but the tragedy of it was, I never did.
I didn't realize until much later that...
All of this was caused by my sensitivity to processed food
My body is extremely sensitive to anything that's not whole or organic.
In many ways, processed food is like a hard drug to me.
It makes my thoughts race, emotions cycle, and floods my body with intense amounts of energy and electricity.
So, imagine giving a child a hard drug 3 meals a day, day-in-and-day-out, week-after-week, month-after-month, for years-and-years.
By the time I was an adult, I was practically insane
In order to cope as an adult, I cycled through various medications, including anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, and even an anti-psychotic.
The problem with most medications is very little of a pill or capsule contains the active ingredient you're taking it for.
Majority of it is made up of fillers, stabilizers, colors, flavors, and preservatives.
So, although the active ingredients were helping...
The inactive ingredients in medication were causing more problems than solving
What's more, the longer I was on them, the more the dose needed to be increased.
Very quickly, I realized | was on a slippery slope.
So I decided to take myself off them.
Unfortunately, I didn't do it gradually, but abruptly.
Yeah, bad move!
I lost all control of my mind
Complete control.
You know those cracked out, homeless on the streets talking to themselves, all erratic in their behavior?
Well, I was almost there.
The only difference was, I was aware.
I often joke, the crazy thing about crazy people is that they don't know they're crazy.
Because of what I was going through...
I more or less destroyed all my relationships
All of them.
My relationships with friends, family, girl friends, and I essentially burned all my bridges at work.
And I kept doing it over and over and over.
Since I was aware, I could do something about it.
Little did I know at the time...
I was embarking on a journey of healing that spanned over 100 countries
Trying everything under the sun, including working with masters, healers, and gurus.
Although this makes for a great story, since I wasn’t addressing the underlying cause - food and diet - most of the things didn't help much or at all much.
Only when I finally started to change what I ate, did:
- My mind calm
- My energy stabilize
- My thoughts clear
I felt like me again.
Though...
It took nearly 15 years to understand the extent of my sensitivity to food
That's because there is not a lot of good information out there.
Only misinformation.
What's worse...
With more people becoming conscious about health and healthy eating, companies are becoming ever more clever and deceptive in their marketing and practices.
It's gotten so bad, most people think what they're eating is good, when it's the furthest from it.
That's why...
